Alumni Participate in OUT in the Real World Panel
On Thursday, April 24, the LGBTQ Subcommittee of the Marist College Diversity Council hosted a brand new event on campus called OUT in the Real World. As part of this special event, Marist alumni returned to campus to share personal stories about being openly gay in the workplace. This alumni and “friend” panel answered questions about interviewing, finding gay friendly workplaces, and how/when to share your story with colleagues.
The alumni panelists represented a range of generational perspectives from an array of industries including education, finance, pharmaceuticals, public service, and more. One alumnus, Brian McAlpin ’03, made the trip from Washington, DC to participate in the panel. “As an alum, it was a great honor to return to Marist and address student concerns about LGBT issues in the post-graduation world.” He went on to say, “Like a workforce, a student body can only reach its true potential when it represents all backgrounds and diversities. It thrills me to see that Marist is embracing an inclusive environment and discussions like this will help ensure future success for our students.”
The Office of Alumni Relations would like to offer a special thank you to the alumni and “friends” who served as panelists for this special night (listed below).
